Welcome to The Royal George :0)
We are now closed for some much needed R&R. We will reopen on January 22nd 2020.
The renovation and re-opening of this historic building showcases the pubs history, Appledore’s natural beauty, and the culinary talents of our Head Chef and his team.
Located on Irsha Street, at the meeting point of the Taw and Torridge rivers, our waterside restaurant is in the perfect position to take in the superb view across the estuary. The recent refurbishment has made the most of these stunning views, and by using materials and features from the original pub we have retained the character of the Great Appledorian Waterside Restaurant and Inn.
At The Royal George we aim to deliver an exceptional a la carte menu of the highest quality, with innovative dishes and traditional classics. Cooked with care, all of our super tasty food uses the freshest seasonal and local ingredients from our suppliers based close by. We have worked hard on our ever changing and developing drinks list. It features wines from the UK, The New World, Europe, and South Africa and our wine menu has been specifically created to exquisitely compliment the food. We also have a selection of non alcoholic drinks, ales, beers, ciders, and gin – many locally made in North Devon and the surrounding area.
And, if you wish to stay the night, we have four beautiful and recently refurbished B&B rooms available.
The friendly and knowledgeable team at The Royal George look forward to providing you with a warm, professional and inviting experience in a unique setting. Whether it’s for a special occasion, a light lunch in the sun, or a lovely weekend away in North Devon we look forward to welcoming you soon.
We are open for breakfast (when booked in advance) , lunch, and dinner, as well as for drinks throughout the day. As a family run business, we aim to create a welcoming environment for families, with a children’s menu, as well as offering colouring materials and baby changing facilities. The restaurant has access for guests with disabilities, and if you have any accessibility requirements we would be more than happy to help accommodate these. Unfortunately there is no disabled access to the hotel rooms. Dogs (and other pets!) are welcome on the ground floor.
